So, it seems that Hydroxycut is now being recalled. This is a product that is quite well-known and advertised. I have seen it touted in the majority of magazines aimed at women, that I can say for sure... certainly in all of the women's fitness magazines. Now, it has been linked to serious liver injuries--including one that required a transplant, and one death secondary to liver failure. This is big!

Here are the products being recalled:

Hydroxycut Regular Rapid Release Caplets
Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Rapid Release Caplets
Hydroxycut Hardcore Liquid Caplets
Hydroxycut Max Liquid Caplets
Hydroxycut Regular Drink Packets
Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Drink Packets
Hydroxycut Hardcore Drink Packets (Ignition Stix)
Hydroxycut Max Drink Packets
Hydroxycut Liquid Shots
Hydroxycut Hardcore RTDs (Ready-to-Drink)
Hydroxycut Max Aqua Shed
Hydroxycut 24
Hydroxycut Carb Control
Hydroxycut Natural

Hydroxycut Cleanse and Hoodia are not being recalled at this time. And again, I will say, "Eating right and exercising are head and shoulders above any 'magic' pill."

mmh somwhat reminds me of blueprint cleanse ... (blueprintcleanse.com) it's not a pill but as far as I know it's just fruit juice, but claims to have all sorts of "restoring" "excavating" or whatever effects. Its marketing also seems to work on educated people who should know better in my opinion. but w/e. what do you thin of this?

Blueprint cleanse is actually fruit and vegetable juices, and nothing else: no additives, no preservatives. It is used as a fast. And for healthy individuals, used for a day per month, or three days at a time, this is not detrimental to a person's health.

Hydroxycut is a system of multiple ingredients, including ma huang, L-carnitine, guarana, and green tea extract and multiple, multiple other additives. Ma huang, alone, should make you shudder--it does, me.

When I was doing my rotations in medical school, a gorgeous 27 year-old "Barbie-type" woman was brought in to the ER I was working in, essentially lifeless. Before our eyes, her heart flipped through 5 different rhythms in the course of 10 minutes. Turns out, she was using ma huang ("But it's all natural!!" was her excuse) to lose "just a little more weight" before her modeling shoot. She ended up with a cardiac cath, and, fortunately, her life. Not everyone is so fortunate.
